Holders KPA eye playoffs fine run after unbeaten KNBL season

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team head coach Samuel Ocholla has credited his squad's unwavering dedication and discipline for their flawless regular-season run that saw the Dockers finish the campaign unbeaten.

The defending national women’s basketball league champions capped off their dominant campaign with a 65-43 victory over the USIU Flames last weekend.

The win secured top spot on the summit with a maximum 44 points from 22 matches.

Ocholla emphasised that his players’ commitment both on and off the court was the cornerstone of their success as they turn their attention to the upcoming playoffs.

“We owe all this to the dedication and discipline the players have shown throughout the season. They have been working hard both individually and as a team, always finding time to work on themselves away from the team’s practice sessions," said Ocholla.

“This is what has contributed to our stellar performance this season as we approach the playoffs. Everybody knows their role in the team, and every day they work towards perfecting it while striving to make themselves and the team better.”

With the playoff fixtures still to be announced, Ocholla insists KPA will keep refining their game, treating the postseason as an entirely new hurdle despite their top-seeded finish.

“Now, as we look forward to the playoffs, it is going to be a different ball game, and it doesn’t matter where you finished in the standings. What matters is how well you prepare yourself, and I believe we are prepared.

“We will continue preparing as we wait for the fixtures to be released. Our target and aim remain the same: to win our games in the shortest time possible and retain the championship,” he added.
