Pupils and staff at a school in Mwingi Central, Kitui County were left in shock after the headteacher committed suicide by hanging himself in his office.

Mr. Kioko Mutie who was the headteacher at Yanyonge Primary School took his life under mysterious circumstances on Monday evening. No suicide note was left behind to shed light on the motive behind his action.

Area Assistant Chief Mulinge Wambua confirmed the incident, adding that the 46-year-old teacher, who hails from Makueni County was full of life and never had any signs of depression.

Teachers and parents described the deceased as an education lover pointing out that he always arrived in school very early to begin teaching.

It could not be immediately established why the headteacher committed suicide.

The body of the deceased was moved to Mwingi hospital mortuary.
