The national football team Harambee Stars has withdrawn from CECAFA Four Nations Tournament
in Tanzania after “recommendations and advice from the technical bench”, FKF
said in a statement on Monday.
The tourney was primed to kick off Monday, July 21 2025, with the Stars
taking on the hosts Tanzania, the development taking football lovers in the
region by surprise.
The Stars, alongside Tanzania and Uganda are preparing for
the CHAN 2024 which the three countries are set to jointly host beginning Saturday.
“This decision has been made following recommendations and
advice from the team’s technical bench, led by Head Coach Benni McCarthy, after
a thorough assessment of the prevailing conditions, which were deemed unsuitable
for the team’s participation and overall preparation,” FKF said, adding that, “The
team will return to Kenya and resume preparations for the upcoming African
Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, with full focus now shifting to ensuring
optimal readiness for the assignment ahead.
FKF said it remained committed to providing the national team with
the best possible environment to compete and represent the country with pride.
