Harambee Stars held by Eritrea in Nairobi

Stars started brightly and created several chances, with Ryan Ogam leading the attack in the absence of captain Michael Olunga. 

However, the home side Stars were unable to turn their early chances into anything meaningful.

Eritrea absorbed the pressure and got into the game and punished Kenya before half-time (36th minute) when Nahom Girmai capitalised on a defensive error to put the visitors ahead. 

Harambee Stars went into the breather trailing 1-0 before a huge home support  despite creating chances.  

Head doach Benni McCarthy made changes after the half break as Harambee Stars increased the pressure. 

Eritrea goalkeeper made vital saves to keep his side in front, including efforts from Timothy Ouma and substitute Mohammed Bajaber.

Harambee Stars continued to dominate and pushed on as the match entered its closing stages. 

It was striker Ryan Ogam who nailed the equaliser on the 85th minute to send the home fans into frenzy.

The draw came after tough week for Harambee Stars, whose preparations were disrupted by a go slow over unpaid allowances. 

The draw gives both teams a point in Group D, while Kenya will now turn its attention to the next stage of the qualifying campaign.
