The national women football team
Harambee Starlets have intensified training ahead of an international friendly
match against Albania scheduled for April 11 in Tiran.
The team has been in camp for the
last three day at the Kasarani Stadium with all local based players available.
They are expected to be joined by their international counterparts later this
week.
In an interview with Citizen Digital, defender Phoebe Owiti
who plies her trade with Turkish side Hakkarigucu Spor shared her excitement
for earning a call up to the national side, noting their readiness for the Albania
test.
“I’m very much happy having been
one of the call ups. Its good feeling seeing competitive football back again
after very long time and it’s our prayer that we shall shine in Tirana,” she
said. “We know less about them and vice versa, and according to the morale in
the our camp, I have no doubt that we shall emerge victorious.”
Phoebe sentiments were echoed by
Vihiga Queens midfielder Janet Moraa Bundi.
“We have a very solid technical
bench which is very positive on us players. I’m sure we shall do our job well
and make Kenya proud. I’m urging our fans to continue supporting us.”
The friendly is set for Albania
on April 11, their first international match since Fifa lifted the suspension
it had slapped on Kenya.
