GSU defend Kenya Cup title with victory over Chema

Defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) retained the Kenya Volleyball Federation  Kenya Cup men's title after beating Chema Volleyball Club 3-0 in the final played on Sunday at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

GSU won the match 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19 to successfully defend the trophy and cap off another impressive Kenya Cup campaign.

The paramilitary side took control of the contest from the opening set, frustrating Chema's attacks before taking a 1-0 lead. 

GSU carried the momentum into the second set to move within one set of the title before wrapping up the match with another composed display in the third.

The two sides had booked their places in the final after contrasting semi-final victories on Saturday. GSU edged Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-2 in a tightly contested encounter, while Chema beat Kenya Prisons 3-1 to reach their first Kenya Cup final.

The victory adds another Kenya Cup title to GSU's trophy cabinet and underlines the team's consistency in domestic volleyball. The side has remained among the country's top performers in recent seasons, regularly challenging for both league and cup honours.

Although Chema fell short in the final, the Juja-based club will take positives from a season that has seen them emerge as one of the surprise packages in Kenyan volleyball. 

The newcomers reached the National League final in their debut top-flight campaign before advancing to the Kenya Cup final, where they eventually lost to the experienced GSU side.

Attention will now shift to the continental stage, with Chema set to represent Kenya at the African Club Championship following their impressive National League campaign, while GSU will look to build on another successful domestic season.
