GSU collide with KPA in Kenya Cup semis, Chema face Prisons

The wins saw the four powerhouses set up potentially-explosives semi final clashes set for Saturday at the same venue.

Former Kenya Volleyball Federation National Men’s League champions Kenya Prisons were the first to storm the last four after sweeping Administration Police (APK) 3-0 sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-14).

The win saw Prisons set up a mouth-watering semi final blockbuster against Kenya Volleyball Federation National Men’s League runner up Chema who outclassed Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) in straight sets of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-15.

Chema head coach Jeremiah Mukopi could not hide his delight after his high-flying side put on a masterclass performance to continue with their fairytale as they seek to cap their season with a silverware after finishing behind KPA in the league.

Mukopi however warned his charges against sleeping on their laurels ahead of the last four tie.

 “I am happy as a coach to win today's game, it gives us great motivation heading into Saturday's semi finals,” said Mukopi.

“KAPU is a side we know very well from our division two days, but our plan worked seamlessly. My goal now is simple, cross tomorrow’s hurdle, get into the final, and bring this trophy home to our fans in Juja.”

Kenya Prisons skipper Jairus Kipkosgei emphasized that the team are out to redeem themselves following a tough third-place finish in the national league.

“We played well today and got a 3-0 win. The morale among the players is high,” Kipkosgei stated.

“Even though we missed out on the league title and finished third, we’ve redeemed ourselves in this Kenya Cup. We told ourselves that all is not lost and that we can take this trophy. Our goal is to show people that slipping is not falling, we’re fighting for this Cup.” Kipkosgei assured.

In the other men’s quarter finals, GSU made work light of Equity Bank with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) to storm the semis while national league champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) came from a set down to battle past a stubborn Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) side with 3-1 sets victory. 

After dropping the first set 21-25, the Dockers held their nerve through two gruelling, edge-of-your-seat tie-breaks (30-28, 29-27) before cruising through the fourth set 25-17.

Peter Kamara, 2025-26 season national league MVP, came out as a standout performer to KPA’s comeback as he played a key role in their attacks ‘awakening’ the team’s dream.

GSU will tackle KPA in one much-anticipated clash from 4PM at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

In the women’s contest, KCB Women's Volleyball Team, will be out to keep their Kenya Cup title hopes alive when they take on perennial rivals Kenya Prisons in the semi final at the same venue on Saturday.

The highly anticipated clash, scheduled for 12pm is expected to rekindle one of Kenya's fiercest volleyball rivalries.

The encounter comes just weeks after the two sides produced a thrilling National League playoff series at the same venue.

KCB enter the contest as the defending champions after winning the inaugural Kenya Cup title last year with a commanding 3-0 victory over Kenya Pipeline.

In the other women's semi-final, DCI will lock horns with Kenya Pipeline (KPC) from 10.00 am.
