The government has directed relevant health agencies to probe the staff at Body by Design clinic following the botched plastic surgery procedure that led to the demise of Lucy Wambui.

In a statement signed by Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni, the government instructed the Kenya Health Professional Oversight Authority (KHPOA) to also carry out a thorough assessment of all similar facilities involved in cosmetic surgery to prevent future incidents.

According to the PS, the facilities ought to comply with the health standards and policies to continue operations.

KHPOA is required to submit a comprehensive report of its findings in 30 days.

"By copy of this letter, Chief Executive Officer, KHPOA shall coordinate this exercise and submit a comprehensive report in 30 days with effect from the date of this letter," the statement read in part.

Lucy passed away on Thursday last week after undergoing a procedure at Body by Design, raising questions about whether such health facilities comply with the laid standards.

The clinic has since been shut down as authorities continue with investigations over Wambui's death.

Further, her family has called on other victims who have suffered at the hands of botched surgeries at the facility to come forward.

"What we are going through is very unfortunate and I want to call out anybody who has gone through a similar situation or is going through to please please come forward," Brian Ng'ang'a, the deceased's eldest son, said.
