The government has officially opened the first-ever Nyandarua Lands Office, ending more than six decades of reliance on neighboring counties for critical land services and bringing a major boost to land administration in the region.

The facility was inaugurated by Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome alongside Lands and Physical Planning Principal Secretary Generali Nixon Korir at Ol Kalou.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the government's efforts to decentralize services and improve access to land registration, surveys, valuation and adjudication for Nyandarua residents.

During the event, CS Wahome issued 2,700 title deeds to beneficiaries from Ol Kalou Blocks 1, 2, 4 and 6, as well as residents of Rurii, Nyairoko, Melangine, Ngorika and Sabugo colonial villages.

"Today is a special day for the people of Nyandarua. This office will bring services closer to residents, secure land ownership and unlock new development opportunities," said Wahome.

She revealed that 296,957 land records out of a total 432,552 have already been transferred from the former Nyahururu registry to the new office, representing about 75 percent of all land records in the county.

The CS noted that the move will enable more than 296,000 families to access land services locally without the need to travel outside the county.

PS Korir described the opening of the office as the fulfillment of a long-standing government commitment to bring services closer to wananchi.

"For many years, Nyandarua residents travelled long distances to access land services. Today, that journey comes to an end," he said.

Korir added that the issuance of title deeds to families living in colonial villages would enhance land tenure security and create opportunities for investment, credit access and economic growth.

Nyandarua Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha welcomed the development, saying it would save residents time and resources while accelerating development across the county.

The new office is expected to strengthen land governance, improve service delivery and support the government's broader agenda of enhancing access to public services at the grassroots level.
