The Government has launched National Address System (NAS) a program aimed at naming and numbering of roads, estates and buildings to boost the uptake of e-commerce and improve service delivery.

Communications Authority of Kenya Director General Francis Wangusi says the framework will also help in the management of disasters, security, national planning as well as infrastructure mapping.

E- Commerce in the rural areas has had sluggish growth, with players like Jumia and OLX concentrating on major towns.

A 70-member committee has been formed to spearhead the implementation of this frame work, with county governments being tasked with implementing NAS in their regions.

This is the latest attempt by the government to find a solution to the national addressing and numbering systems. In 2000, the Postal Corporation of Kenya developed a 5-digit postcodes system for geographical location.
