The government has been put on notice over the escalating wave of insecurity in Kitui County after National Liberal Party Leader Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli issued a two-week ultimatum demanding decisive action to end a series of killings that have sparked widespread fear among residents.

Dr Muli delivered the warning while leading a peaceful procession through Kitui Town, where residents turned out in large numbers to demand urgent intervention from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration over what leaders described as a deteriorating security situation.

He warned that if no concrete measures are taken within the stipulated period, residents will be forced to return to the streets in renewed demonstrations.

The ultimatum comes amid growing alarm over a string of brutal killings reported in recent days across the county.

Addressing demonstrators, Dr Muli accused the government of failing in its constitutional mandate to safeguard lives and property, calling for immediate and coordinated security operations to restore calm in affected areas.

He urged security agencies to move swiftly and decisively to apprehend those responsible, warning that continued loss of innocent lives would no longer be tolerated by residents.

Just two days ago, the bodies of four unidentified men were exhumed in Tyaa, Mwingi, and transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary as investigations into the mysterious deaths continue.

The discovery followed closely on the heels of another disturbing incident in which five women were found murdered in separate cases in Kitui Central Sub-County, further heightening public anxiety and raising questions over the effectiveness of ongoing security operations in the region.

Other leaders who joined the procession, among them National Liberal Party Secretary-General Ishmael K’oyoo, emphasised that every Kenyan has an inalienable right to security regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or place of residence.

They also called for thorough and expedited investigations into the killings, demanding that those responsible be identified, arrested, and prosecuted within two weeks.
