Over 5000 squatters occupying agricultural finance corporation (AFC) land in Taveta sub-county now have a reason to smile after the government agreed to resettle them.

The national government has begun the process after an agreement between AFC and the squatters that the corporation cedes the land for farming to the squatters at a considerable rate.

While addressing the squatters, AFC Managing Director Mr Lucas Meso said those willing to abide by the terms of the agreement will be given two acres of land each at a cost of Ksh150, 000 per acre.

Meso said that AFC was very sensitive to the plight of the squatters, adding that the government is committed to finding a permanent solution of resettling them.

Taita Taveta legislator Dr Naomi Shaaban on her part said that the government is committed to resolving land issues in Taita Taveta County, noting that squatters at Mboghoni Ward will be resettled and be issued with title deeds before the end of this year.
