The government has announced the construction of Kabarnet University College in Baringo County, marking a step toward expanding access to higher education.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya on Monday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the institution, which will operate as a constituent college of Moi University. The project is part of broader efforts to improve education infrastructure and increase opportunities for students in underserved regions.

According to Tuya, the new college is expected to ease pressure on existing facilities, where some programmes have been operating from the Seretunin Campus due to limited infrastructure. The development aims to provide a more suitable learning environment and support academic activities.

Construction will be carried out in phases. The first phase will include key facilities such as tuition blocks, a library, an auditorium, and an administration block, with completion projected within 12 months. Additional infrastructure will be developed in subsequent phases.

The government said the project will involve multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Defence, and the Baringo County government, with the Defence Ministry offering technical support during implementation.

Tuya also inspected the ongoing Kabarnet Stadium project, which is being implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence.
