Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has waived hospital bills for more than 100 patients admitted at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), in a move aimed at easing the financial burden on families during the Easter season.

Arati announced the intervention during a visit to the county’s main referral facility, where he said the county government remains focused on improving service delivery, hospital infrastructure, and the overall patient experience.

The governor said the waiver would allow affected patients to concentrate on their recovery and spend time with their families without the pressure of unsettled medical costs.

During the visit, Arati toured several departments at the hospital to assess the quality of care and inspect ongoing improvements at the facility. He commended doctors, nurses, and support staff for their dedication to ensuring patients receive timely treatment and attention.

“I wish to commend our doctors, nurses, and all staff who continue to put their best foot forward to ensure every patient receives the care and attention they deserve,” he said.

In keeping with the Easter spirit, the governor also visited patients admitted at the facility and distributed gifts as a gesture of encouragement and solidarity.

Arati further praised what he described as the “remarkable facelift” at KTRH, saying the visible transformation reflects the county’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and restoring confidence in health services.

Among the developments highlighted during the visit was the installation of fully automated laundry machines at the hospital. According to the governor, the machines have the capacity to process linen and other hospital fabrics from all sub-county hospitals across Kisii.

He said the equipment is designed to wash, dry, iron, and fold automatically, significantly improving operational efficiency while helping maintain high hygiene standards within county health facilities.

The governor said the investment forms part of broader efforts by his administration to restore dignity to patients seeking treatment in public hospitals and modernize health service delivery.

Arati maintained that the county government would continue investing in healthcare improvements to ensure residents access quality, efficient, and dignified medical care.

“Kisii remains committed to even greater advancements as we strive to achieve the highest standards of healthcare,” he said.
