Alpha Onyango claimed the Man-of-the-Match award as champions Gor Mahia eclipsed Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to open up a 10-point gap at the head of the Kenyan Premier League table.

Gor had to wait until the 90th minute to seal the win, Chris Ochieng shaking the net, to break the resolve of Sharks who had until then managed to limit the runaway league leaders.

At the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, host club Kakamega Homeboyz FC missed a chance to climb up to the third position on the log after they were held to a barren draw by visiting Bandari.

Bandari FC started on a positive mood and in the eighth minute their talisman Hassan Abdallah missed a chance when his fierce left-foot shot hit the cross-bar.

The hosts were to threaten again in the 20th minute when defender Brian Wekesa’s long- range effort from his own half went inches wide.

In the second half Bandari were the first to create a meaningful chance through William Wadri’s strike that was punched away by Homeboyz goalkeeper James Ssetuba from a well-crafted counter-attack.

The contest also had its fair share of drama when Bandari players threatened to abandon the match, with 16 minutes left, in protest over a penalty kick awarded to the hosts.

However they had a change of heart following the intervention of their technical bench but their goalie

Joseph Ochuka was equal to the task stopping Moses Shumah's spot kick.

Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo slammed his players for lack of character to win matches.

"I am very disappointed with some of my players especially the strikers who are not taking advantage of our chances, we cannot continue like that," he fumed in a post-match reflection.

However his counterpart John Barasa said he was satisfied with the one point they snatched away on the road. The Dockers are now second on 30 points, 10 adrift of Gor.
