Gor patron Owalo hints at squad changes ahead of CAF-CL return

Owalo says they are awaiting recommendations from the technical bench before recruiting 'serious players' who will impact the upcoming continental assignments.
The patron now says they have tasked the technical bench to come up with recommendations on areas that need beefing ahead of the continental outings.
‘’The technical bench is working on suggestions of players they may want to join our camp. We will be ready to support them achieve miles and make Gor Mahia one of the greatest teams in Africa,’’ said Owalo
Speaking to Çitizen Digital the patron said they have bigger plans with the club as long as he still serves as the club patron.
‘’The Gor Mahia of 1987 brought home a continental title. There is no reason why the Gor Mahia of ‘2026’ cannot replicate them.
“We are not just going to participate in the CAF Champions League but we want to make history,’’ added Owalo.
Gor Mahia were crowned the FKF-PL Champions, putting in their cabinet their 22nd trophy after a successful 2025/2026 campaign. They finished top of the log with 69 points, five ahead of their traditional rivals AFC Leopards who finished second.
The patron who took over from the late Raila Odinga has also assured all stakeholders that during his tenure as club patron, he will ensure Gor Mahia's dream of having its own stadium becomes a reality. He says they are at an advanced stage of acquiring land for the facility.
‘’We have had issues with getting land with authentic documents, but I can assure you that we are at an advanced stage, and I will ensure Gor has its own stadium while I am still the patron’’.
Gor Mahia yesterday presented their 22nd league trophy to Mama Ida Odinga at her Karen residence, as a gesture to the fulfilment of Raila Odingás wish of Gor reclaiming the title they lost to Police FC in the past campaign.
In the meantime, head coach Charles Akonnor has expressed his delight after reclaiming the title with Gor in his first season with the local giants. Akonnor said he saw potential in Gor, noting that he intends to stay longer at Gor to make history with them.
‘’I cannot hide my happiness, this was our plan when the season started and by God’s will we have achieved it.
“I would want to stay longer with Gor and make greater than I found it, ‘’ said Akonnor.
The former black Stars coach says alongside his assistant Kobbi Mensah are likely to continue taking charge of Gor at the CAF Champions League .
The next CAF Champions League draw for the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 season is expected to take place in July 2026.
Meanwhile, CAF has set the deadline for national associations to confirm their participating clubs for June 30, 2026.
