Kenyan football giants Gor Mahia FC have fired their
entire technical bench, including interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and
security personnel, in what the club describes as a “mutual separation.”
The decision, announced in an official statement on Wednesday, comes just two
days after Gor Mahia were stunned 2-1 by National Super League (NSL) champions Nairobi
United in the FKF Cup final, a
result that capped off a disappointing season for the record 21-time league
champions.
“This
decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the Club’s
broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and
operational capacity,” said
Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier in the statement.
While the outgoing bench had steered Gor Mahia to a league
title in the 2023/24 season, they failed to retain it this year, finishing
behind newly crowned champions, Police FC, and falling short in continental competitions, prompting pressure from
fans and stakeholders for a fresh start.
“The
separation has been reached amicably and in good faith, with the club recognizing and
appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff,” noted Rachier. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the
individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the
Club during their tenure.”
Rachier further assured fans that Gor Mahia remains focused
on building “a solid
foundation that will support competitive excellence both on and off the pitch.”
He confirms
that announcements regarding the club’s new technical setup will be made in due
course.
The shake-up marks the beginning of a crucial rebuilding phase for K’Ogalo, who will be hoping to bounce back stronger in the 2025/26 season.
