Goalkeeper Gabriel Andika is the new KCB FC captain following
changes on the squad and leadership of the FKF Premier League club announced on
Friday.
The experienced shot stopper takes over from Michael Mutinda
who remains sidelined due to a knee injury sustained in April. He will be deputized
by Brian Ochieng and Maurice Ajwang.
KCB also announced it had completed the signings of five new
players including striker Derrick Otanga who rejoins the club from Police FC.
The others are goalkeeper Brian Olang’o (Mathare United), winger
Stephen Etyang (Ulinzi Stars), defender Bernard Odhiambo (Bandari FC) and defender
Herit Mungai (Nairobi City Stars).
The bankers will kick-start their new campaign on September
1st against AFC Leopards at the Kasarani Stadium after the postponement of the
Kakamega Homeboyz clash that was scheduled for this weekend.
Speaking during a signing ceremony Friday morning, KCB FC
Assistant Coach Elvis Ayani said: “The boys are highly motivated ahead of the
new season and we cannot wait to get underway. We have been preparing for it
with the new boys coming in. Otanga, who is an old KCB boy, knows the team well
and he has been gelling well with the squad.”
KCB, who finished 5th in the previous season, will be looking
to turn its fortunes around this season with the recent recruits and the new
technical bench under the tutelage of coach Mwalala.
Derrick Otanga said: “I am very happy to be back home after
my short stint at Police. This is a place I know very well and even though I
have not worked under coach Mwalala before, he has been instrumental in
enabling us to settle in with the rest of the squad. There is of course
enormous pressure for me to bag the goals and hopefully help KCB lift this
season’s title.”
Otanga, a proven local talent was the top scorer of the
2021/22 FKF-premier league season and will be keen on propelling KCB FC to its
maiden Kenya Premier League title.
