Glovo Kenya has intensified efforts to improve road safety among its courier partners through a rider training programme in Mombasa that brought together about 50 riders and road safety stakeholders.

The training, conducted in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Mombasa County Inspectorate and National Police Service Traffic Department, focused on traffic regulations, hazard awareness, defensive riding and responsible road use.

Glovo Kenya Head of Operations Liz Wambua said safety remains an ongoing priority for the company as delivery services expand.

Wambua said that the Mombasa engagement would help the company understand challenges faced by riders and provide practical knowledge to improve their safety.

Samuel Musumba, Head of Programs at NTSA, said road safety requires collaboration between government agencies and industry players.

He urged riders to apply the knowledge gained from the training and make safer decisions while using the roads.

The initiative forms part of Glovo’s broader rider welfare programme. The company said riders on its platform in Kenya have access to personal accident insurance as part of measures aimed at supporting their wellbeing and financial security.

The Mombasa programme follows a similar rider safety initiative held in Nairobi in February, where Glovo introduced a voluntary in-app Rider Telematics feature.

The feature provides riders with information on riding patterns, including speed, acceleration and braking, with the aim of encouraging safer riding habits.

Glovo said it will continue working with government agencies and other stakeholders to promote responsible riding and improve safety as courier and delivery services become an increasingly important part of Kenya’s economy.
