Gaspo FC Team Manager Vivian Akinyi believes that they have all what it takes to clinch the Kenyan Women Premier League title this season, after edging Vihiga Queens from the top of the table on Sunday.

Gaspo FC climbed to the top of the log after defeating Vihiga Queens 2-0 at the Mumias Sports Complex.

Akinyi says the win has buoyed them as  they bid to maintain the smooth run which has seen them rise to the top, eyes on the title and representing Kenya and East African Region in the third edition of the Caf Women's Champions League later this year.

Akinyi, a twin sister to Sharon Aluoch, a defender at the club, was appointed manager of the club in October last year after serving as he first choice Goalkeeper for long in the same team.

She has urged his charges to maintain focus, reminding them the competition is still tough.

“This is our season and we will not take chances. We are at our best now and that’s why I want to urge everyone in our team to be focused and determined. We only need to maintain the winning streak and take on each team with the seriousness it deserves.”

Forward Ann Arusi gave the Mohammed Ibrahim coached side the first goal before Emily Andayi scored the second goal to complete the win which puts them on the apex of the league with 24 points.

Vihiga Queens has been leading since the league kicked off, but the loss saw them drop to second position with 22 points.

“It’s a good feeling being on top of the league and it’s my hope that shall not be shaken by any team going forward. Defeating the four-time champions wasn’t east being that they have kept on beating.” added Akinyi.

Elsewhere at Gems School, Zetech Sparks thrashed Thika Queens 1-0 thanks to Puren Alukwe goal while Nakuru City Queens beat Bunyore Starlets 2-0 at Nakuru Show Grounds with Melon Mulindi and Elizabeth Muteshi on target.

One of the double headers at the Mumias Sports Complex saw Wadadia thrashing Kangemi Ladies 4-2.

Mercy Mang’uro was the star of the match as she scored a brace as Monica Sungura and Jackline Chesang scored one each to complete the scores.

The two consolation goals for Kangemi were scored by Consupta Wanyama and Alice Nyaboke Omwana.
