Garissa residents sue NLC over encroachment of community land by Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy

Two residents of Garissa County have sued the National Land Commission (NLC) over the Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy.

The two, Abdullahi Ali Abdi and Abdikadir Ibrahim Shurie, argue that NLC together with Garissa County and the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), conspired to deprive them and residents of Ijara Sub County their rights over community land.

They argued that the respondents have not compensated the community for the annexation of land for the establishment of the Hirola Community Sanctuary in Hara, Korosa and Kotile locations.

Through lawyer George Kithy, the duo now wants the court to stop the respondents from interfering with the land meant for the community for the expansion of the Ishaqbini Hirola Conservacy until the case is heard and determined.

They further stated that they face the threat of behind displaced by the continued encroachment and illegal appropriation of public land by the Northern Rangeland Trust.
