The defectors were welcomed into the party during a sensitization meeting held in Rumuruti town, Laikipia West Constituency, in an event presided over by Laikipia County Secretary Wahome Koinange and senior DCP official Hezron Obaga.
Among those who crossed over are Charles Ndegwa, Virginiah Wahome, and Stephen Losiagol, all said to be close allies of former Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi.
Addressing supporters, the DCP leaders said the party was leaving nothing to chance as it prepares to take on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the broader Kenya Kwanza administration at the ballot.
They noted that DCP was open to receiving like-minded leaders and supporters, adding that the party was keen to test its political muscle in the upcoming **Ol Kalou by-election slated for July 16**.
The officials further assured aspirants and supporters that the party would conduct peaceful, free and fair nominations ahead of the General Election, urging members to remain calm and focused.
"Our doors are open to all progressive Kenyans who share our vision. Nobody should fear being short-changed during our nominations," the leaders said.
At the same time, Koinange declared his interest in vying for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat once the electoral period kicks in.
He seeks to succeed Governor Joshua Irungu, who will be exiting office next year after completing his constitutionally allowed two terms.
Koinange now joins a growing list of aspirants eyeing the county's top seat, in what is shaping up to be a hotly contested race.
