Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced that he will cut short his month-long trip to the United Kingdom to a week, claiming that the country is almost grinding to a halt and Kenyans need him.

Speaking during an interview held in the UK on Wednesday, Gachagua said that he will jet back to Kenya to help agitate for good leadership

He believes that many Kenyans count on him to speak up on their behalf and heap pressure on the ruling administration to remain accountable and ease the financial burdens that cripple the economy.

“Kenyans are saying that somebody must speak for us and to many Kenyans, that person who can speak and who must speak is Riggy G,” he said.

"Over the weekend I will be back home so that I can support the people of Kenya so that I can speak for them and give them hope, encourage them that there will be a better tomorrow.”

The former Deputy President expressed gratitude in being ousted from office, saying that it has allowed him freedom to make his sentiments without censorship.

He likened his removal to “throwing the fish in water”, saying that he now enjoys calling leadership to action, opining that Kenyans trust him with the mantle to defend them.

“By kicking me out I got in the best environment. I am able to speak up and for the people of Kenya without asking anybody’s permission. When I was in government, I was abit civil, persuasive and approach the president with humility but I was talking to a stone,” he said.

“I am a happier man. I am a very happy person and I am grateful that God has given me that opportunity and I am happy that Kenyans appreciate what I do.”

Gachagua had visited UK to officially launch the DCP chapter in a bid to expand the party’s global membership as he seeks to rally support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Affirming his support for the Kenyan diaspora community, Gachagua promised to create their representation in Kenya’s Executive, Parliament and County Governments.

"I am asking the Kenyans in diaspora to give me the benefit of doubt, that I will live up to my word and I will honour the promises I will make."
