Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday led the a political rally in Kajiado, drawing crowds of supporters who turned up to receive him and other opposition leaders.

The Ukombozi Rally brought together opposition leaders, among them Kalonzo Musyoka.

The day's activities began with a church service in Isinya attended by Gachagua before he proceeded with his convoy to Kitengela town, where he addressed residents.

At the church service, Gachagua called for respect for churches, urging politicians to conduct their political activities without interfering with the church.

He maintained that churches should remain respected spaces and should not be turned into battlegrounds for political confrontations.

The former Deputy President also urged Kenyans to maintain peace during the campaign season saying political competition should not be a reason for violence or hostility among citizens.

He further cautioned against the use of social media influencers to spread incitement and hate speech, calling on political leaders to avoid using social media influencers to cause incitements and spreading insults to non-supporters, saying influencers should not be used as tools to provoke Kenyans or cause divisions along political lines.

Gachagua also addressed concerns surrounding unity within the opposition, revealing that he had held discussions with other opposition leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Jubilee leader Fred Matiang'i.

He said the leaders remained committed to working together and having a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. He maintained that the opposition would eventually agree on one leader, whose name would be announced at a later date.

Following the church service, Gachagua proceeded with his convoy, making stops at Gataka before heading to Kitengela town in Kajiado, where he began addressing residents.

The gathering comes amid opposition leaders’ consultations over a possible united coalition and the process of settling on a united presidential candidate.
