Kiambaa Member of Parliament John Njuguna Wanjiku has alleged that he was chased out Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s office, questioning his bid to unite the Mount Kenya region.

In an interview on Kameme TV on Monday, Wanjiku popularly known as Kawanjiku attributed the bad treatment to his past visit to Kiharu Constituency for benchmarking activities.

The legislator questioned the credibility of Gachagua’s push to unite the region and wondered why he would sideline a section of Mt Kenya leaders.

Wanjiku emphasised that the unity of the region should involve all  Mt Kenya leaders without discrimination.

“I went to his (Gachagua) office and he kicked me out. Because I had gone to Kiharu to benchmark their activities, he chased me away,” Wanjiku stated.

“We must tolerate each other. We informed him that he must tolerate people, talk to them and they will decide whether to accept you or not. The people of the mountain say that he (Gachagua) is our leader, then lead us. Don’t talk about unity during the day and plan for how to divide us at night. It is very unfair.”

Wanjiku warned that the consequences of Gachagua’s actions would lead to rebellion within the mountain.

“Ndindi (Kiharu MP) is from Kiharu, isn’t he from the mountain? Same as Kimani Ichung’wah (Kikuyu MP). Hence, when we talk about unity we mean all of us,” Wanjiku added.

“Don’t talk about unity in the mountain in the morning and in the afternoon chastise a Mt Kenya politician. We will reach a point where people can become rebellious, hence instead of uniting people, you will end up dividing them. That’s why some of us are revolting and it is not because we want to.”

A cold war between DP Gachagua and Ndindi Nyoro over supremacy battle within the Mt Kenya region has been brewing ahead of the 2027 General Election. Speculations have also arose over wrangles in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, with critics alleging a fallout between President William Ruto and his deputy.

This is after some UDA members accused DP Gachagua of launching early campaigns to succeed President Ruto at a time when they are still serving in government.

Further, Gachagua’s push for one man one shilling policy has caused a divisive front between the Kenya Kwanza camp.

Leaders such as CS Kindiki and Ichung’wah have publicly castigated the policy and instead called for a vision of One Nation One Flag One People.

“As the symbol of national unity, the president of the Republic and his principal assistant have the constitutional duty to lead in the collective project of forging our national identity and sense of belonging, and further to spearhead the harmonisation of sub-national interests and the generation and projection of the collective good for Kenya as a whole,” Kindiki stated on his X platform.

On his end, Gachagua has maintained his stance that he would not abandon the push for uniting the region.
