Gachagua alleges plot to disrupt Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay

Speaking to the press in Nakuru on Friday, Gachagua accused Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga of plotting the disruption as a plan to use violence on anti-government rallies.  

“The President promised that goons won't be allowed and that they would be arrested. So far, no arrest has been made. Despite his assurances, I have credible intelligence that PS Raymond Omollo and Gladys Wanga have organised goons on Sunday to beat and kill people in Homa Bay against Linda Mwananchi,” Gachagua alleged without providing evidence to validate his claims. 

“I want to ask President Ruto to instruct PS Omollo to stop organising goons,” he added.

The allegations come amid growing political tension ahead of the Linda Mwananchi rally, with a section of politicians affiliated with the movement claiming that some Nyanza leaders were planning to mobilise youths to disrupt the event.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino accused Wanga, Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma of allegedly plotting to disrupt the rally.

The allegations come days after PS Omollo said the Linda Mwananchi coalition has a right to hold its rally in Homa Bay and that adequate security would be deployed to protect the organisers and participants.

Omollo said security agencies had put measures in place to maintain peace and warned that anyone attempting to disrupt or block the rally would face firm action.

“Whichever political formation they are, everyone has a right to hold a meeting anywhere in the country,” Omollo said.

He, however, urged the organisers and participants to respect the law and maintain peace.

“The position remains very clear. Everyone has a right to go anywhere, but also they have to respect law and order,” he added.

Omollo further warned that security agencies would not tolerate political violence.

“Any political goonship will not be tolerated. As a country, we must have tolerance for different opinions without violence,” he stated.

Further, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen assured the coalition that the government will provide security for the rally, urging politicians and their supporters to maintain peace during political gatherings.

“As a Ministry, our duty is to make sure our country is safe. People will campaign everywhere regardless of their political affiliations. Some of my former friends have been insulting me left, right and centre. It's still my responsibility to ensure their functions are safe,” Murkomen stated during Scott Christian University's 61st Graduation Ceremony in Machakos on August 14, 2026. 

“We will deal with all those people mobilising goons to disrupt meetings. The National Police Service is well instructed to ensure meetings are peaceful."
