Four police officers under the Special Operations Group (SOG) have been killed in an Al Shabaab attack at the border of Banisa and Mandera West Sub-counties in Mandera County.

The four officers were patrolling Har Sigenge area in a group of 15 others including 12 Special Operations Group officers and three National Police Reservists (NPR) when they were accosted by the militants triggering a fire exchange.

During the Thursday 5.45 pm incident, four of the elite SOG officers were killed, three injured while five are still missing. The three National Police Reservists sustained injuries.

"All the 6 injured are in stable condition and have been transferred from Guba Health Centre to Banisa Hospital awaiting airlifting to Nairobi," reads a police report seen by Citizen Digital.

"Combined SOG officers from Guba, Ashabito and Takaba are on the ground to search for the missing officers."
