The accident occurred near Chomachoma Zone after the lorry reportedly veered off the road and swept into pedestrians using the roadside walkways.
Several victims were rushed to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The extent of the injuries among those admitted remains unclear as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
In a separate incident, five people are feared dead following a grisly road accident involving a 14-seater passenger matatu and a trailer at Kapiti along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
Police said the matatu was travelling from Nairobi towards Mombasa when it was involved in a head-on collision with the trailer.
By the time of filing, the bodies of those who died and the injured victims were still at the scene as rescue teams faced challenges accessing the area.
The situation was reportedly worsened by heavy traffic that began building up around the crash scene.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the two accidents.
