Four Homa Bay minors charged with gang defilement

The Director of Public Prosecutions filed charges against the four minors on Thursday, accusing them of jointly defiling a 17-year-old girl on July 30, 2026 in Rangwe Sub County.

The charge sheet alleges the accused, acting in concert and in turns, intentionally and unlawfully defiled the victim, contrary to Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act.

Before Chief Magistrate Mary Immaculate Gwaro on Thursday, all four pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate remanded them in custody at the Homa Bay Child Protection Unit pending trial.

Prosecution Counsel Jacinta Moenga will present the state's case beginning August 22, 2026. The case marks another sexual offense prosecution in a region where such crimes continue to draw court attention and community scrutiny.

The alleged incident occurred in a sub-county where law enforcement and child protection agencies have intensified focus on sexual violence cases, particularly those involving minors.

The charges underscore ongoing efforts by the criminal justice system to prosecute such offenses, though conviction rates in sexual offense cases remain a persistent challenge nationally.
