A Form Three student at Chemalal AIC Secondary School in Konoin, Bomet County, is fighting for her life after she was stabbed by a fellow learner in an incident police linked to a suspected love triangle.

The 17-year-old girl is in critical condition at Litein Level Four Hospital, police said.

Konoin Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Mohammed Godana said the suspect, a 23-year-old male student, confronted his girlfriend after she attended a Christian Union session within the school compound before allegedly stabbing her in the chest and left arm.

Members of the public who heard the commotion rushed to the scene and attacked the suspect, leaving him with head and shoulder injuries before he was arrested and handed over to police.

Police said the suspect is a day scholar and is believed to have brought the knife from home with the intention of harming the victim.

The motive is under investigation and the cause of the dispute is yet to be established, police said, adding that the blood-stained weapon was recovered at the scene.
