A family in Kakamega County is mourning the death of their daughter, Flora Laura, a Form Three student at Vokoli Girls High School, after unknown assailants broke into their home and attacked them.

The armed gangsters accessed the house in the early hours of Thursday, stormed into Flora’s bedroom, tied her up and struck her on the head with a blunt object.

According to Flora’s father, James Owich, the assailants then proceeded to his bedroom and demanded his phone and that of his wife. They allegedly promised to spare their daughter’s life if the couple complied, despite having already fatally injured her.

“Pia walikuwa wanataka pesa bure. Kama sitawapa pesa, wataenda kumaliza huyo mtoto. Sikujua kumbe walikuwa wameshamaliza,” said the father.

After the assailants fled, Owich rushed to his daughter’s room and found her in critical condition.

He rushed her to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kakamega Central Sub-County Police Commander Vincent Cherutich said security agencies had recovered the blunt weapon allegedly used in the deadly assault at the crime scene.

Police are also analysing CCTV footage captured around the premises in an effort to identify the perpetrators as investigations continue, pending an autopsy.
