Airlines are reporting increased demand for flights from Nairobi to Kenya’s coastal destinations as families travel during the August school holidays, with more travellers opting for air transport to reach Mombasa and Ukunda/Diani.

The rise in bookings comes as domestic tourism gains momentum, with families seeking shorter travel times and convenient alternatives to long road journeys during the peak holiday period.

fly748.com said it has recorded strong demand for its Nairobi–Mombasa and Nairobi–Ukunda/Diani services, with the airline linking the trend to increased interest in local holiday destinations.

The airline’s Head of Scheduled Services, George Oduor, said more Kenyan families are considering air travel as a practical option for holiday trips.

“More Kenyan families are choosing to fly during the school holidays because air travel has become more accessible. What was once considered a luxury is increasingly becoming a practical option for family travel,” Oduor said.

He said improved connectivity between Nairobi and coastal destinations is giving travellers more options when planning domestic trips.

“By connecting Nairobi with both Mombasa and Ukunda/Diani, we are giving travellers greater choice in how they access the Coast,” he said.

To encourage travel at the start of the holiday period, fly748.com offered a limited 10 per cent discount on one-way fares, targeting families, students and leisure travellers.

Oduor said increased domestic travel has a wider economic impact by supporting businesses that depend on tourism, including hotels, restaurants, tour operators and transport providers.

“Every additional passenger travelling to the Coast contributes to livelihoods across the tourism value chain,” he said.

The August school holidays are among the busiest travel periods in Kenya, with families traditionally travelling to coastal towns and other tourist destinations.

fly748.com operates scheduled flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Terminal 2 to Mombasa and Ukunda/Diani.
