Floods paralyse learning as schools submerged in Busia County

Massive flooding has been experienced in the area due to backflow from Lake Victoria. 

At least 8 schools near Lake Victoria have been rendered inaccessible. 

More than 100 students of St. Mary's Ack Namabusi Secondary School have remained stranded at home since the official opening of schools on January 8, 2024 as the school management seeks to have the students hosted in the neighbouring Musoma ACK Primary School from Monday next week.

"Shule ilikuwa deregistered baada ya mafuriko last year but kwa sababu watu walirejea katika vijiji vya hapa, tumepata wanafunzi 150,” the school principal Eliud Musahi said.
