Football Kenya Federation Premier League will resume on May 12, the federation chief executive office Barry Otieno has said.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Saturday, hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Sports and Health ministries to come up with protocols for sports return on his Labour Day address, Otieno confirmed that the leagues are scheduled to resume on May 12 after President Kenyatta lifted the lockdown.

For two months the government banned movements into or out of the disease zoned counties –  Niarobi, Nakuru, Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos.

Football and other sports activities have been on ice since then and this will soon change giving stakeholders a relief of sorts.

Barry added that they are in in talks with the line ministries to make ensure that the games resume under strict adherence to the laid down guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19, adding that the league return will also aid preparations for the football national teams Harambee Stars and Harambee Starlets.

The Stars are set to feature in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers while the Starlets will be busy in continental qualifiers.
