Fishermen in Homa Bay County have appealed to the government to revive the collapsed processing plants.

Beach Management Unit chairperson Edward Oremo noted that this will help transform the lives of those in the lake region.

"By reviving the collapsed fish processing plants, the government will be creating jobs for locals and generally improve the output," Oremo said.

He added that the region has a single fish processing plant based in Koguna, Suba North Constituency.

"The existing plant does not have the capacity to process fish from the region. At times we have to transport our fish to neighbouring counties or Uganda for processing," a fisherman said.

Local fishermen challenged the county government to partner with private investors to find ways of reviving the plants, including Homa Bay town-based Capital Fish which collapsed years ago.
