Ex-national football manager convicted of sodomy, jailed for 10 years

A one-time former Uganda Cranes manager, Christopher Mubiru Kisingiri, has been jailed for 10 years for sodomising a 17-year-old boy, reports Uganda’s New Vision.

Delivering the sentence Friday morning, the Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Flavia Nabakooza also ordered Mubiru to pay the victim Ksh 1.4 million (UGX50 million) in compensation.

“I heard from Mubiru’s lawyers during mitigation for being a first offender and a soul bread winner in his family. I have also heard from the victim, who was by then 17-years-old, and about the pain that he got as a result of sodomy,” said Magistrate Nabakooza.

She added: “Children are protected all over the world. He (the victim) has told court that he experiences pain since the incident. I accordingly, sentence you (Mubiru) to ten years in prison and I also order you to compensate the victim with 50million Ugandan shillings…”

Nabakooza also said that the evidence presented by the five prosecution witnesses proved that Mubiru committed the crime.

The court heard that in December 2009, Mubiru had sexual relations with Nyanzi against the order of nature at Mengo Kisingiri LCI in Rubaga division.

Under Ugandan law, the deed is an offence contrary to section 145(a) of Ugandan Penal Code Act.​

The magistrate went ahead to advise Mubiru to appeal her sentence if dissatisfied with it.
