Police in Machakos are investigating an
incident where unknown people set former Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) Secretary
General Philipe Sadjah’s car on fire.
According to reports by the police, no one
was injured when the car went up in flames at his Miwani home in Machakos
County.
In the Thursday night incident, Sadjah - who
now fears for his life - explained that unknown persons came to his residence
at night and demanded entry, claiming they had been sent by the Directorate of
Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Sensing danger, Sadjah said he refused to
open the door after which they resulted to setting his vehicle ablaze.
“I am a God-fearing man and if I had not
refused to open the door, I wouldn’t be alive to talk to you today,” he said.
“If I have done something wrong, I should be
called to the DCI or OCS to record a statement and not send people claiming to
be DCI officers at night.”
Sadjah further blamed the incident on his
recent move to defect from Nzioka Waita-led CCU to Wiper Party and back its
Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti.
He claims that since the announcement, a
section of CCU has not been happy with him.
“It is very unfortunate that politics in this
country has reached these heights. Last week I withdrew my support from my
candidate Nzioka Waita to another within Azimio, Wavinya Ndeti of Wiper,”
Sadjah said.
“I know there are people who are mad because
of my move. I know they thought I had the records of the party in the car and
that is why they may have burnt my car.”
