Industrialization and Trade Cabinet Secretary Betty Maina has appointed Esther Ngari to take over as Acting Managing Director of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) effective immediately for a period of 6 months.

The decision by the CS was communicated through Chief Administrative Secretary David Osiany who has been in charge of the affairs of the Ministry while the CS is away in Ghana on government duty.

Speaking after installing the Managing Director on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, CAS Osiany wished Ms Ngari well and asked her to keep track of their role in implementing the President’s Big Four Agenda.

"I hereby appoint you as the Acting Managing Director to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) with effect from 27th July 2022 for a period of 6 months or until the Court of Appeal determines or stays the judgement of the High Court, whichever is earlier," read part of the letter.

Prior to her installation, Ms Ngari has been the institution’s Director of Standards.

Esther Ngari takes over from Col (Rtd) Bernard Njiraini whose term came to an abrupt end following a court ruling that dismissed his previous appointment as being irregular.

The CS appointment follows recommendations made by the board of KEBS, which submitted names to the CS for consideration for the role.

Ms Ngari has been lauded for her exemplary work in creating new standards that were previously nonexistent in the country and becomes the second female head of the organization.
