Equity Dumas out to extend playoff charge against Ulinzi

 Equity Dumas head coach Joseph Lubarov believes his side is primed for a pivotal National Men's Basketball Premier League showdown against Ulinzi Warriors tonight at Nyayo Gymnasium, insisting the four-week break has left his team sharper, fitter and ready for the decisive stretch of the season.

The bankers head into the contest eighth in the standings with 25 points from 16 matches, having won nine and lost seven. Victory would strengthen their bid for a playoff berth against ninth-placed Ulinzi Warriors, who have amassed 23 points from 15 games with eight wins and seven defeats.

Lubarov said the extended break has allowed his squad to refine key aspects of its game despite the absence of competitive fixtures.

"We are well prepared for tonight's game. Ulinzi always play tough matches because they play physical, no-nonsense, hard-nosed basketball. To be honest, I think that suits where we are right now," said Lubarov.

"We haven't played for four weeks, but that has given us enough time to really focus on our game. Our training sessions have been lively and intense, and I've seen real progress. The only downside is that friendlies and inter-squad scrimmages can never fully replicate the intensity and demands of a competitive match."

With the race for the playoffs heating up, Lubarov believes the battle in the middle of the table has turned every remaining game into a high-stakes contest.

"What really excites me is how competitive the middle of the table has become. From third to ninth place, the teams are separated by just one or two games, which means every remaining fixture is significant."

"I feel confident about where we are and what we're capable of achieving. We're in a strong position, and I'm really looking forward to tonight's game."

The match tips off at 8:00 p.m. at Nyayo Gymnasium in Nairobi.
