Equity Bank has flagged off a fleet of 11 new public service vehicles (PSVs) for Nakonns SACCO in Othaya, Nyeri County, in a move expected to boost the SACCO's operations and expand its transport network.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at Equity Bank's Othaya branch, the bank's Central Region Manager, Stephen Mwaniki, said the vehicles were acquired through the bank's SME financing programme.

Mwaniki noted that the acquisition will increase the sacco's fleet from 94 to 105 vehicles, while positioning it to expand into new routes, particularly ahead of the festive season.

"We have grown with them. We want them to grow... By the time we are heading into the festive season, they will have implemented most of the things. This is within the core of the bank to scale their investment,” said Mwaniki.

The bank also challenged other matatu SACCOS to embrace similar financing arrangements to enable their members to grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Nakonns SACCO leadership welcomed the acquisition, saying it comes at an opportune time as the sacco seeks to modernise its fleet and enhance passenger comfort.

The officials said the new vehicles will help meet evolving customer expectations while improving the quality of public transport services.

"Haya magari ni tofauti na yale mengine. Haya ambayo tumeshikwa mkono na Equity ni zero mileage,” stated Nakonns SACCO Secretary Timothy Kinyua.
