Embu man jailed for 25 years after pleading guilty to murdering wife

A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after he was convicted of murdering his wife in Embu County. 

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Isaac Mbuva Muasya admitted to murdering his wife, Emily Mutuli, on October 17, 2023, after the prosecution negotiated a plea bargain with the accused.

Muasya had been charged with murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.

In sentencing, the court considered the circumstances of the offence as well as Muasya’s previous conviction for robbery with violence.

The prosecution attributed the crime to marital differences following a dispute involving Muasya and their seven-year-old daughter.

Although the disagreement had reportedly been resolved earlier on the day of the incident, tension persisted into the evening.

The court heard that the daughter witnessed her father pulling the deceased from the bed and tying her hands and neck with a rope. He subsequently returned with an object and struck his wife twice before fleeing the scene. 

Neighbours, who were alerted by the commotion, urged the couple's son to check on his parents. The prosecution revealed that he found his mother lying in a pool of blood with a rope around her neck. 

The incident was reported at Karaba Police Station, where investigators were dispatched to the home and processed the scene. 

The deceased’s body was taken to Embu Level Four Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
