Former Deputy Chief of Staff for Delivery and Government Efficiency, Eliud Owalo, has revealed that his net worth stands at approximately Ksh.1 billion.

This is a rise from the Ksh.645 million Owalo said he was worth when he was vetted for the ICT Cabinet Secretary position in October 2022.

Then, the presidential contender told the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments that he accrued the wealth by making land investments, venturing into the hospitality sector, as well as planting trees commercially.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live, Owalo said his wealth and public life should not be narrowly judged by the government positions he has held, but by his long-standing involvement in national institutions, including sports.

“I’ve been part and parcel of the Gor Mahia journey for three decades, and I’ve been with them through thick and thin. The bottom line is not the position I hold; it is that I’m part and parcel of the club as a fan,” Owalo said.

Owalo explained that his association with the record Kenyan champions dates back to the 1980s, long before he rose to national prominence. He added that his role at the club was driven by patriotism and loyalty rather than ambition.

“I did not wake up one day and decide to associate with Gor Mahia. I have supported this club since the 80s, and taking over as a patriot was a natural continuation of that journey,” he said.

The former ICT Cabinet Secretary also noted that he stepped into the role following the late Raila Odinga’s tenure as a Gor Mahia patriot, insisting that the transition was not sudden or opportunistic.
