Eight Arsenal fans were slapped with a Ksh 500 fine each by an Eldoret court after they pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and disorderly conduct during wild street celebrations after the Gunners ended their 22-year wait to be crowned Premier League champions.

The eight admitted to the charges before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Daniel Sitati.

The suspects arraigned were David Kipchumba, James Mwangi, Peter Nyaucho, Omar Olentimama, Jesse Murei, Vincent Amoke, Peter Wambua, and Gilbert Kurri.

According to the prosecution's case, the suspects were arrested on the night of May 20, in Eldoret's Kimumu estate moments after Manchester City's 1-1 draw against Bournemouth mathematically handed Arsenal an unassailable lead, crowning them the 2025/26 Premier League champions.

Police officers on routine patrol intercepted the group as they shouted and disrupted public peace on the streets, following Arsenal's first league title win since Arsene Wenger's "Invincibles" in the 2003/04 season.

The fans pleaded with the court for leniency, explaining that they were simply overcome by the euphoria of the historic trophy win that saw the Gunners banish the nearly-men tag after finishing runner up in the last three seasons.

They pledged to maintain public order during future celebrations, promising the court that they would not repeat the mistake of disrupting public peace when celebrating their team's victories.

While delivering his ruling, Magistrate Daniel Sitati questioned why the youth were channelling such intense energy and disruption into foreign sports franchises while neglecting local talent.

The magistrate challenged the fans to show similar passion and patriotism by supporting Kenyan football clubs, noting that local teams also perform exceptionally well at both national and regional levels.

The eight were ordered to pay the fine or face a default custodial sentence.
