Egerton University lecturers down tools over paycut

Lecturers at Egerton University- Njoro main campus in Nakuru County have downed their tools over pay cuts.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the demonstrating lecturers accused the university management of high-handedness and lack of a unifying leadership model.

The chairman  of the Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) Egerton University Chapter, Benjamin Kipchumba Ruto said the management has failed to implement the 2017/2021Collective Bargaining Agreement, in total disregard of a court order.

Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) Egerton Chapter Secretary Grace Kibue said the non-compliance with the court order has not only affected the remission of statutory deductions, but has also seen sustained, systemic industrial injustices meted by the employer.

The striking dons, who were joined by the branch Kenya Union Of Domestic Hotels Educational Institutions Hospitals and Allied Workers, also accused the management of arbitrary withdrawal of negotiated salaries and benefits.
