EACC investigator wins global award for anti-corruption work

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) forensic investigator Christine Ombaka has won the 2026 Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Global Public Sector Advocacy Award.

Ombaka was recognised for her work in public sector integrity, accountability and the fight against corruption, including corruption investigations, forensic accounting and asset tracing.

The award also recognised her contribution to strengthening investigation systems and risk management in public institutions, as well as her efforts to promote the accountancy profession and mentor young professionals.

Ombaka was honoured during a ceremony held at the EACC Integrity Centre on Wednesday.

EACC CEO Abdi Mohamud, who was represented at the event by Director of Field Services Jackson Mue, congratulated Ombaka on the achievement, saying it demonstrated the importance of professional expertise in advancing the Commission’s mandate.

“The Commission is committed to supporting the professional development of its officers so that they can continue to excel in their areas of expertise and make a meaningful contribution to the fight against corruption. Christine’s achievement reflects the professionalism and dedication that our officers continue to demonstrate in the execution of the Commission’s mandate," said Mohamud.

The Head of ACCA’s Eastern Africa Chapter, George Njari, said Ombaka’s recognition demonstrated the role of professional expertise in promoting integrity and accountability in the public sector.

“Christine’s achievement is a proud moment for ACCA and demonstrates the importance of professional expertise in promoting integrity and accountability in the public sector. Her dedication and commitment set a good example for her peers and the next generation of professionals," noted Njari.

Ombaka, in her acceptance remarks, thanked EACC for the professional support she said had contributed to her growth and development.

She dedicated the award to the Commission, saying the recognition reflected the collective efforts of EACC staff in advancing integrity and the fight against corruption.
