The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two more Nyamira County Assembly officials over alleged irregularities in the award of a Ksh.367 million tender for the construction of an office block.

The commission on Friday said the alleged irregularities resulted in the loss of Ksh.30,187,396 in public funds.

Those arrested are David Nyarango Ombego, Deputy Clerk and Director of Legislative, Legal Procedure and Committee Services, and Joyce Onyiego, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation.

EACC said the two were arrested within Kisii County during an operation conducted by its investigators.

They are expected to face charges including abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds and negligence of official duty.

The two suspects are being processed at EACC's South Nyanza Regional Office in Kisii ahead of their arraignment.

Three other Nyamira County Assembly officials have previously been arrested and charged in connection with the tender.

They are Nyamira County Assembly Clerk Duke Simeon Onyari, Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works Eng. Josephat Matini Oruru and Infrastructure Officer Simon Ondari Ogecha.
