The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested the Embakasi Sub-County administrator Stephen Kosgei for allegedly receiving a Ksh.30,000 bribe from a borehole driller to help him avoid appearing in court.O

Officers from Embakasi East visited a site where Engineer Njoroge Keruka, the owner of a drilling company, was drilling a borehole for a client and arrested one of his workers for "illegal water connection,"  according to a source at the anti-graft commission.

Peter Macharia, the arrested worker, was then taken to Soweto Police station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh.10,000 and was directed to report at Nairobi city county offices in Embakasi.

Upon receiving the arrest report, Engineer Keruka called Mr. Kosgei who then advised him to visit his office on the following day to which he did not because it was on a weekend.

On Monday Macharia presented himself to the City-County Embakasi offices ready to be taken to court. Upon arrival, Mr.Kosgei asked him to give a Ksh.40,000 bribe to solve the matter without involving the courts.

Macharia then called his boss, Engineer Keruka, informing him of the bribe request and immediately filed a complaint with the EACC prompting a probe.

"Preliminary investigations were conducted and it was established that the suspect was demanding the bribe as alleged by the complainant," a source at the commission told Citizen.Digital.

A team of EACC officers then discreetly accompanied Engineer Keruka to a meeting with Mr.Kosgei at his Embakasi office. After a brief conversation, they agreed upon a Ksh.30,000 bribe and transacted the deal.

EACC officers then immediately made a move and arrested Kosgei after receiving the bribe.

"He was searched and the operation money Kshs. 30,000/= was recovered from him," said EACC.

Kosgei was then taken to the EACC headquarters at the Integrity Centre where he was further interrogated. He was then released on a Ksh.100,000 bail pending a probe conclusion.
