A driver in the US state of Colorado tried to switch places with his dog to avoid arrest after being pulled over for speeding.

In the Saturday night incident, local police said the driver was spotted manoeuvring inside the car before he got out on the passenger side.

“The driver attempted to switch places with his dog who was in the passenger seat, as the SPD officer approached and watched the entire process. The male party then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and claimed he was not driving,” police said in a Facebook post.

The man showed signs of intoxication and when asked about his alcohol consumption, he ran from the officer.

He was caught within about 18 meters, where police also found he had two active arrest warrants.

The man was locked up to face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding, and resisting arrest.

“The dog was given to an acquaintance of the driver to take care of while the party was in jail. The dog does not face any charges and was let go with just a warning,” police added.
