During his time at bolttech, Kavugwi was involved in the company’s market entry and growth strategy in Kenya and other African markets, focusing on partnerships, commercial development and engagement with insurers, banks, fintechs, retailers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and device financing companies.
One of his key contributions was identifying Kenyan technology firm MTEK as a potential strategic acquisition opportunity, introducing the company to bolttech and supporting the engagement process that led to its integration into bolttech’s ecosystem.
Kavugwi also led the commercial strategy for bolttech’s Device Lifecycle Management proposition in Africa, a solution aimed at helping device financing companies manage risks through services such as device locking, tracking, repairs, replacements and lifecycle management.
The initiative targeted the growing device financing sector across Africa, where lenders have increasingly sought technology solutions to reduce risks associated with financed devices.
He also worked with insurance companies and other partners to develop embedded device protection products covering risks such as accidental damage, theft, total loss and repair services, designed for integration into device financing and retail channels.
Kavugwi said Africa’s technology growth will depend on businesses that successfully combine technology, finance and partnerships.
“Africa is a relationship-driven market. Technology creates possibilities, but sustainable growth comes from understanding local markets, building trust and creating ecosystems that solve real problems.”
While he has confirmed the end of his
chapter at bolttech, he has not yet announced his next move.
