Dogo fired up for Wafcon experience after 2016 miss

Dogo scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win against Gambia in the second leg of the reverse qualification fixture on October 24, 2025, sending Beldine Odemba's coached side to the continental showpiece for the second time in history.

Starlets first qualified for WAFCON in 2016 under the stewardship of then coach David Ouma who was recently unveiled as Mathare United's tactician. For Dogo, this will be a tournament to remember as she missed the 2016 edition held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, because she was sitting for her national examination (KCSE).

Starlets were eliminated in the group stage after losing all three of their matches. They started their campaign by losing 3-1 to Ghana as Kibera Starlets goal poacher Esse Akida made history by scoring Kenya's first-ever WAFCON goal before falling 3-1 to Mali before completing their preliminary fixture with another 4-0 loss in the hands of Nigeria who went on to clinch the title.

In the 2026 edition in Morocco and Casablanca cities, Kenya will kick off their campaign against the host Morocco on July 26, 2026 before facing Senegal on Thursday July 30, 2026 before completing their preliminary fixture against Algeria four days later.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Dogo who rose from St. Johns Kaloleni in Kilifi County before joining Thika Queens and Maccabi Holon (Israel) then later Hakkarigucu Spor in Turkey said the opportunity will open doors in her career.

“I’m very ready for WAFCON. The camp has been good under our coaches and I’m sure enough that with the right support we will do wonders on Morocco. 

"It’s my first time to take part in Wafcon after missing out in 2016. The exams were crucial part in my life but I thank Godfor another opportunity which I believe will give me more opportunity to explore in my career”

Dogo sentiments arrive three days after coach Odemba revealed that the players are yet to receive their allowances for the previous two matches and urged relevant stakeholders to intervene.

"I rarely speak about this, but the fact is the players haven't received their allowances for the past two matches, and they need something to motivate them,"

The coach also expressed her hope that President William Ruto will officially flag off the team before they depart for Morocco, saying the gesture would demonstrate the country's confidence in the squad and inspire the players ahead of their historic campaign.
